Thank you for visiting Lincoln Adams Illustration and for viewing my portfolio. New work is always in
development and will continue to be added to the site, so please come back often. Soon, I will add
an "in progress page" showing pieces from thumbnail to finished art letting you in on how I develop
concepts.
My illustration work flows between mixed media work and painting depending on what I feel the assignment is best suited to accomplish. Being a literary person, I tend to spend a good deal of time with a manuscript, looking for the pulse behind each word. Sketches come directly from me writing down reinterpretted phrases I've jotted down. Creating just the right pictogram to tell the story is my primary goal— form follows function, as the saying goes. In the end it is really all about the "story".
The portraiture comes directly from the this point of view, as well. "What is the story behind this person and how can I
engage an audience with this image of a perfect stranger?" These are the questions that motivate me beyond painting merely a successful likeness. In contrast to the illustration, portraits tend to be more impromptu regarding conceptualization. Compositions are only sparingly thumbnailed out and brushstrokes handle the heavy lifting of evoking the essence of
the sitter.
I look forward to your commission, and once again, thank you for stopping by my little corner of the art world!
One of my illustrations from last year has been accepted into the 47th Annual Illustrators Society West Exhibition. Many thanks to the jurors of the competition!
